PEWAUKEE, Wis. — A man was arrested in Pewaukee on Saturday after tactical units responded to an apartment complex, according to the Waukesha County Sheriff's office.

The Sheriff's Office said they were asked to help Milwaukee Police locate a 29-year-old domestic violence suspect that morning.

Law enforcement had information the man was armed with a handgun and a rifle when he left the scene in Milwaukee, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said they found his vehicle at an address near Pewaukee Road and Green Road and evacuated everyone else from the apartment building for safety.

After failed attempts by phone and a loudspeaker to make contact with the suspect, the Sheriff's Office said they made contact at the front door and took the man into custody.

Several hours earlier, a shelter-in-place order was issued for people living in the area.

Marie Rich said she'd just returned home from running errands when squad cars arrived.

"I'm not gonna lie, I'm kind of shaken up from this situation today," said Rich.

Rich said while she waited inside her home, there were officers right outside with rifles on her lawn.

"I've never been involved in a situation like this. Knowing that there's guns right there that could potentially go off, right by my patio, it's pretty scary," said Rich.

The Sheriff's Office said they turned the man over to Milwaukee Police and there were no other suspects.
